Montie R. Allen

Montie Russell Allen, 87, of Coal Center, PA, died Sunday, February 11, 2018.

He was born Friday, September 28, 1930, in Pliny, WV, a son of the late Emmitt and Fanny (Conard) Allen. Montie was the youngest child, with seven sisters and three brothers.

Montie was a true gentleman who greeted others with kindness and generosity and a fine sense of humor. He was a renown sportsman and spent many happy days fishing in Pennsylvania and hunting in wild locations throughout the United States.

He was a member of the Centerville American Legion and a veteran of the Korean War.

He retired from US Steel and worked on the Monongahela and Ohio Rivers as supervisor of barge transportation , where he initially met his future wife Helen Martin, who worked as cook for the barge line, prior to their marriage.

In addition to his parents Montie was preceded in death by his wife Helen (Martin) Allen on August 7, 1996, and her parents Olympia and John Martin, as well as Helen’s sister Rita Patterson.

Left to cherish his memory are his niece, Tina Patterson Frost, her husband John, children Nathan Frost, Mark Lewis, and Jillian Frost Kalyan and her husband Gorav Kalyan. Special friends, Reed Vira, Margaret, John and Jamie Miller, as well as Norma Gallagher (who predeceased him) and her children Kim Gallagher, Barb Gallagher, Patrick, Katie, Megan and Michael Gallagher.

Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Friday from 6-8 P.M., and until 11 am on Saturday, February 17 when services will be held in the funeral home with Rev. Katy Yates Brungraber officiating.

Interment will follow in Taylor Cemetery.
