Paula M. Szalay

Paula Marie Szalay, 66, of California, PA, died peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

She was born Monday, March 24, 1952, in Brownsville, PA, a daughter of the late Paul and Eva (Starinsky) Matey.

She was a member of St Katharine Drexel Parish, formerly St. Thomas Aquinas. Paula was an administrative assistant for the Centerville Clinics.

In addition to her parents Paula was preceded in death by her husband David Szalay (1983) and one brother, Paul Matey (2009).

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Christopher Szalay and wife Joanna of Canonsburg, Benjamin Szalay and wife Dawn, of Ruffsdale, PA; 3 brothers and 3 sisters, Michael Matey of Cleveland, OH, Joyce Prohaska and husband Jim of Lakewood, OH, Kathleen Sungala and husband Daryl of Port Charlotte, FL, Gary and Michele Matey of Greensburg, PA, Roger Matey of Bradford, PA, Jennifer Boggs and husband Tim of Carrolton, VA.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Mia and David Szalay, Talon Schoedel,  and Lilla Szalay; nieces and nephews,  Gregory Prohaska and wife Gina, Melanie Prohaska and husband Chris Miller, Gabriella, Garrett, Gavin and Gage Matey, and great niece and nephew Breanna and Gregory Prohaska.

Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 1-7 pm and until 9:30 am on Thursday when Prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Katharine Drexel Parish, California Campus (formerly St. Thomas Aquinas) with Fr. Jeremy Mohler as Celebrant.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of her family.
