Elizabeth Grace “Betty” Battaglia, 97, of California, PA, passed away on Wednesday January 18, 2023, following a brief illness,.
She was born on Thursday, April 9, 1925, in Brownsville, PA a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Buntz) Cleri.
On May 1, 1948, she married Charles Joseph Battaglia, Sr.
Betty was a former member of the Brownsville Eagles Club and the West Brownsville Croatian Club.
She worked seven days per week from an early age. Betty was a custodian supervisor at Cal-U, she was a cook at the Golden Eagle Inn in California and a waitress at several restaurants including, JIB in Charleroi and a restaurant near the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh where she once served the “Three Stooges.” She also worked at Union Switch and Signal during WWII from 1943-1946.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph Battaglia, Sr. on May 10, 1996; three sisters, Margaret Danna, Helen Yencsik, Minnie Iaccoponi; two brothers Thomas Cleri and Robert Cleri and her daughter-in-law, Sheri Battaglia.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Chuck Battaglia of Belle Vernon, PA, Sandy Leonetti and husband Ron, Terri Vitchoff and husband Pat, Debbie Steadman and husband Tom and Linda Difilippo and husband Phil, all of California, PA: brother Thomas Cleri of Uniontown, PA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA 15419 on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 10 am to 1 pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm.
Interment is private and at the convenience of her family.
