Virginia McConnell Sikora, 94, of Brownsville, PA passed away on October 28, 2018, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born on February 21, 1924 in McKeesport, PA, the daughter of Robert O and Ernestine Beckstead McConnell. Virginia graduated from McKeesport High School in 1942, Westminster College in 1947, attended Northwestern University and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951. She taught English and history at Beaver Falls High School, was a Recreation Director, and did substitute teaching for 10 years.
She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She loved to read, averaging five books per week. In her retirement years, she taught the German class at the Center in the Woods for 12 years. She enjoyed playing her accordion and would have her German class perform at various nursing homes several times a year. She also loved to crochet, having made afghans and prayer shawls for numerous people.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Edward Sikora, Sr.; daughters, Sandy Logan and her husband Tim, daughter Rebekah and son, Jason and his wife Emily; Norma Conley and husband Jeffrey and son Craig and his wife Beth; and son Edward Sikora, Jr. and his wife Karen and his children Amanda, Alexandra, Nicholas and Eric. Also surviving are her great grandchildren Katelyn, Craig Jeffrey (CJ), and Cara Conley and Owen and Eliana Wood and Simon Logan.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 12:00 pm in the California United Methodist Church with Rev. Dawn Hargraves officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia’s honor to the California United Methodist Church, PO Box 426, California, PA 15419.
